What we do
Red Cypher was originally established to provide a means of getting emergency support and funding to Veteran and Serving Personnel of 3rd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery in times of need.
Although support already exists through charities such as Soldiers', Sailors' and Airmen Families Association (SSAFA) or the Royal Artillery Charitable Fund (RACF), Red Cypher have a Board of Trustees who can if needed assess, process and make funds available within hours rather than days or weeks. Since 2015, Red Cypher has provided over £425,000 of grants.
Examples of Grants Red Cypher have made:
Red Cypher has provided support and funds to veteran members with disabilities. This includes wheelchairs or mobility scooters with charging and storage facilities to assist with mobility, or grants to purchase and install items such grab rails around a property.
Many of the serving Regiment originate from outside of the UK. Red Cypher has provided emergency funding to assist with flights on compassionate grounds where access to other sources of funding would take too long.
Red Cypher provides the wreaths laid on Remembrance Sunday at the Cenotaph each year. They also fund the Regimental Standard, coffin drapes and standard bearer belts for veteran funerals and cover travel and accommodation expenses for the Standard Bearers who are all volunteers.
Red Cypher provides grants towards sports activities for both serving and veteran members of the Regimental Family. This includes grants towards equipment, travel and accommodation for those competing at Corp, National or International levels where existing funding falls short and without support they would be unable to compete.
Red Cypher provides grants towards the hosting of Battery Battle Honour reunions and events. This funding enables serving and veteran members to reunite and build bonds between past and present members.
Red Cypher provides grants for emergency travel, subsistence and accommodation for serving personnel and their families with seriously ill children. This can include emergency flights from deployment to home, accommodation close to the hospital or travel to and from hospital from dependents.
Red Cypher also provided grants to support the participation of veterans in disabled sport. This can include equipment, travel and accommodation to compete.
We also provided grants for disabled veterans who through difficult circumstances have had to move to alternate accommodation and need support with basic items such as furniture or minor modification to be made to their new accommodation.
Red Cypher also provides support for veteran member whose circumstances mean they are unable to work short term due to injury or accident. We have previously helped with grants to help with rent or bills while claims are processed by local authorities or agencies.
Red Cypher has provided grants towards the purchase of home installed medical equipment to provide stimulus or pain relief for disabled children of serving personnel.
We are now into our 9th year as a charity and our grants, made thanks to our generous donors, have helped to make life a little better or brought comfort in a time of need for a significant number of veterans and serving personnel.
