Past and present members

3rd Regiment Royal Horse Artillery (3RHA) has a vibrant Past and Present Members element which has been running in an official capacity for over 20 years. All past and present serving members of the Regiment, including attached Arms such as REME and AGC personnel are entitled to join the PPM through their service to the Regiment. The PPM currently has around 2500 members who have seen operational service in Aden, Kenya, South Korea, Northern Ireland, Cyprus, Bosnia, Iraq and Afghanistan

Our Standard Bearers for members funerals are all PPM members who volunteer their time to attend these events up and down the country. We now have two separate Standard Bearer Parties, North and South, which takes some of the travel burden away.

If you have served with 3RHA in any capacity and would like to find out more about the PPM there is a dedicated Facebook Group which can be found here. The Facebook page is where you will find all the latest news and updates from members including old photos and shared memories. Red Cypher updates are also added along with upcoming events which may also allow you to connect with comrades and friends from your time with the Regiment.

For those who do not use Facebook, we will be sending out regular newsletters detailing the work of Red Cypher, upcoming events and the latest news from the Past and Present Members. You can register for the newsletter which will be sent via email here

You can find the PPM Charter, which details the structure of the organisation here. Also make sure you keep an eye on our events page which details our future event. It can be found here

Christmas message from red cypher president General Sir Richard Barrons

2024 has been a challenging year for the country, our Regiment and a number of Red Cypher veterans.  The Regiment filled back to back tours in Estonia and even now over Christmas a number of the soldiers are deployed in the UK supporting the training of Ukranian forces and the security of Afghan refugees.  The cost of living is still causing difficulties and I am sure that the loss of the winter fuels allowance is also having an effect on some of our veterans.  And we have sadly yet again lost a number of Red Cypher members and their wider families as time has taken its toll.

But as Christmas comes around again, I am very grateful for the continuing strength and spirit of Red Cypher in these times.  The Charity continues to provide valuable support to both serving and retired members.  And not just in the provision of financial aid, but also by ensuring that those in need are connected to wider assistance.  I am also very grateful to the many Red Cypher members who organise events that bring us together.  The spring lunch, the September weekend, the Cenotaph parade and lunch and the Northern Gathering are the main events, but I know that there are others as well.  These are all important activities in not only maintaining our comradeship, but also in ensuring we keep an eye on each other for welfare purposes.

Thank you to all who play an active part in Red Cypher.  And I wish all our members, serving and retired, a very happy and peaceful Christmas and the very best for 2025
